Aerel's First Blood marked the first substantial hostilities during Aerel Arana's war of conquest toward the Summerset Archipelago. It was a one-sided battle, however, due to the presence of Aerel's gryphon Nereon.
Prelude[]
Aerel Arana landed on Auridon in eastern Calambar, where he built the Gryphonhold on a high hill overlooking the Blue Divide. Aerel's manpower varied from hundreds to three thousand depending on the source. Nearby Starhelm and Roseport both submitted to House Arana after minimal resistance.
The Battle[]
Opposition came from Lord Rolim Loreian of Oldcastle and Lady Luthien Joriel of Alliel, who joined their power and marched south with four thousand men. Aerel sent Maeron Errinorne and his own son Daethen to meet them on the march with the Arana host, whilst he descended on them from above with Nereon. Lords Rolim and Luthien were both killed in the overwhelming Arana victory.
Aftermath[]
After the deaths of their lords, Rolim's brother, Haldir, and Luthien's son, Eldrin, yielded their castles and swore their swords to House Arana. Alyssare, one of Aerel's sisters, claimed the riches of Roseport, which at the time was the principal port on the Blue Divide, greatly expanding the Arana's resources. After the submission of a dozen local castles, Aerel gathered his sworn lords to the Gryphonhold, where he revealed his intentions to claim the entire Summerset Archipelago.
