Aldmeris, also called the City, is a large but shattered continent south of Tamriel across the Eltheric Ocean, and west of Pyandonea. It was the heartland of the Aldmeri Hegemony, and according to legend was covered in its entirety by a great city, hence the continent's common name of 'the City'.
The continent was partially, if not fully, destroyed in the Sundering of Aldmeris some 7.000 thousand years ago. Few of the many explorers who have attempted to rediscover the shattered continent have returned, and are presumed to have died in their pursuit.
