The Alessian Slave Rebellion was a widespread slave revolt against the Ayleid Empire that occurred in 1E 242 and officially ended in 1E 243. Aided by divine intervention, advantaged by the weakened state of the Ayleid Empire, and reinforced by Nords from the Kingdom of Skyrim and the forces of the Direnni Hegemony from High Rock, Alessia 'the Slave-Queen' was able to usurp an empire in but a single year, destroying one of the most culturally advanced civilisations Tamriel had ever known.

The Alessian Slave Rebellion is often used by Men as a symbol of Man's triumph over Mer, a rallying cry for the cause of Man.

Prelude[]

For centuries the land of Cyrodiil (then known as 'Cyrod') was home to a race of powerful elves known as Ayleids. Upon coming across scattered Nedic tribes the Ayleids would occasionally enslave them. This occasional occurrence quickly became commonplace, and with the Nedes too primitive to resist the culturally superior Ayleids, they were quickly subjugated.

Over the centuries the Ayleid people began to include Daedric Princes in the pantheon of their faith, eventually weighing them as equal to the original aedric pantheon. As the influence of the Daedric Princes grew throughout their Empire, so too did the severe methods of worship associated with them. While most slaves were used for lifting stones, draining fields, and repairing temples/roads, other less fortunate slaves were subject to brutal "art-tortures" to please the Ayleid's daedric masters.

A young slave named 'Alessia' from Sardavar Leed received divine inspiration from the gods to rebel against her Ayleid masters from atop a hill where the city of Sacre Tor would later be founded. The goddess Kynareth sent down to Mundus the demi-god Morihaus, and Pelinal Whitestrake, a Shezzarine, to aid in the liberation of the Nedic peoples.

Historical Sources[]

The sources for historical information on the Slave Rebellion were almost exclusively written and controlled by the Alessian Empire itself, the direct benefactors of Alessia's actions. As such, much of what is known of the Rebellion is from the eyes of the rebels, and not of the loyalists, this also extends to much of what is known of Ayleid culture and the Ayleid Empire itself.

With the emergence of the Alessian Order after Empress Alessia's death, the remaining Ayleids who sided with the rebels during the Rebellion were viciously driven out of their homeland. After that act, whatever nuances existed in the historical retelling of the Rebellion were henceforth done away with in favour of an all-encompassing Man-centric retelling. The same can be said of the Ayleid Empire's legacy, and that of the Ayleid people.
