Some cultures, both in Tamriel and elsewhere, do not suffer dwarfs[N 1] to live, such as the orcs, the Altmer, and, in the past, the Atmorans, Aldmer, and Ayleids. However, these cultural customs are not always binding and there still exist some dwarfs of those races in Tamriel.
Dwarfs are often employed as motleyed fools and jesters. Dwarfs are sometimes featured in grotesqueries. Mummer's troupes are expected to have a dwarf.
Some dwarfs refer to people of normal stature as "big folk" or "big people".
