Emeric I Cumberland was head of House Cumberland and King of Wayrest during the Three Banners War. He served as Lord of Lochall, his House's ancestral seat, until the death of King Jardan IV Gardner, after which Emeric ascended peacefully to the throne of Wayrest through right of succession.

He was known for being a wise and measured ruler, though his flights of fancy were known to occassionally cause problems for the realm. He laboured to unite the region of High Rock under a single king, and twice created the Daggerfall Covenant to realise such a dream. Only the Second Covenant endured for an extended period, though even it collapsed with time.

Quotes by Emeric[]

You know, there was a time when I was young when I thought being a king would just be a barrel of laughs. The coin, the power of all its trappings—it looked like such fun. It's not, though.

—Emeric about being king

He's the best damn general in the Daggerfall Covenant, if you ask me, and he's a good friend.

—Emeric about General Godrun

Honestly, I deserve some of the blame for Rivenspire's troubles myself. After Ranser's War, I didn't trust any of the nobles enough to give them the throne, so I appointed three Houses to share rule of the kingdom. Seemed like a smart strategy.

Ravenwatch Castle is as strange as the man who owns it. His family is very old, and they have... strange traditions.

Quotes about Emeric[]

King Emeric Cumberland can be rightly described as the pinnacle of Breton achievement. His youth wasn’t misspent idling in a palace and abusing his servants; he learned his father’s trading business, counterbalanced by a regiment of sparring with the Menevia Heavy Dragoons. The canny Emeric used this new wealth wisely, and when the horrific plague of Knahaten Flu slew the entire royal household of the Gardners, Emeric was the natural choice to assume the throne. The Cumberland dynasty was born.
