Glister Tower is the seat of House Helerie in Calambar, a region of the Summerset Archipelago. The tower derives its name from the vale in which it is located, known as Glister Vale. The isolated and well-secured location of the tower and its vale have served to guarantee its protection and relative isolation from the troubles of the realm.

History[]

In 2E 580 after the death of his wife, the Lord of Glister Tower, Sanessalmo Helerie, was dismissed as the lord inquisitor of Ayrenn I Arana's high council. Sanessalmo's recent experiments regarding the magical manipulation of emotion were used as grounds for his dismissal, as the Queen claimed that they were negatively imparing his mind. In reality the experiments were merely a well-timed excuse, as Ayrenn had always intended on replacing the traditional council spymaster with her own spy network. After his dismissal, Sanessalmo retired to his tower where he continued his experiments, likely leading to genuine madness. His erratic and angered state of mind led Sanessalmo to capture two of his former councilmembers, Grandsapiarch Merion, Lanitaale Liaren, and Minantille Sarfiel, as well as and Nuulehtel Petrel the royal herald, while they were travelling on the road to Vulkhel Guard to meet with the Queen on her royal progress, imprisoning them within Glister Tower. Each of the captured nobles were trapped in a magical illusion tailored to their own mind's weaknesses, as Sanessalmo knew every one of their secrets and in his deranged state believed they were responsible for his dismissal.

Upon hearing of her sister's capture, Lady Avinisse Liaren of Shimmerene sent a raven to Ayrenn I requesting she keep the peace by commanding Sanessalmo to release his capitves, elsewise she would raise her banners and march on Glister Tower herself. Eyes of the Queen were eventually sent to rescue the prisoners, as Ayrenn believed that the threat of a siege would drive Sanessalmo to execute his captives. The Eyes eventually succeeded in their rescue attempt, during which Lord Sanessalmo died (although Ayrenn maintained her Eyes had no involvement in his death).
