Helara Errinorne was the second child and only daughter of Lord Faelian Errinorne of Skywatch. She was the wife of Naelor Arana, with whom she had three children: Aerel, Alyssare, and Rhaethen, who would go on to conquer the Summerset Archipelago during Aerel's Invasion.

Appearance and Character[]

Helara had silver-blonde hair, fair skin, and dark blue eyes. It was said by her contemporaries that her family's proximity to the Altmer of Auridon had affected their physiology, as Helara's fair skin was a relative rarity among the Ayelid high nobility in Cyrodiil.

Helara had multiple prophetic dreams throughout her life, as she accurately predicted the fall of the Ayleid Empire and the death of her husband Naelor Arana, emploring him not to depart to his doom. Her final dream was of her children dying, which unlike her prior dream did not come to pass, though it left her shaken and ill, eventually leading to her death.

History[]

Helara was the daughter of Lord Faelian Errinorne of the Stepstone Isles.

Marriage & Birth of Children[]

In 1E 291 a marriage was arranged between Helara and Naelor Arana, the only surviving son of King Anumaril Arana of Abagarlas who had fled to the nearby realm of Valenwood after the Alessian Slave Rebellion. Ever since the Aranas arrived in Valenwood, Helara's father had attempted to broker a marriage between their Houses, a proposition which was eventually accepted by Anumaril.

The marriage was seen as a step up for House Errinorne, which until then had been relegated to the furthest corner of the Ayleid Empire. This was despite the fact that House Arana had been deposed from their seat of Abagarlas, and that they were effectively without a home. The mere fact of bearing royal blood was sufficient to entice marriage.

Three children were born to Helara and Naelor: Aerel, born in 1E 327, Alyssare, born in 1E 330, and Rhaethen, born in 1E 344. All three children had a gryphon egg placed in their cribs by Naelor, as he believed they would bond with the gryphon still dormant inside. Eventually all three eggs would hatch, and each of the three children raised their own gryphons: Nereon, Rhea, and Dawnwing respectively.

Aerel's Invasion & Death[]

In 1E 365, Helara's husband Naelor joined his father in a small gathering with the King of Valenwood, Faldan I, which resulted in the death of Anumaril and the beheading of Naelor at the hands of Faldan, due to an attempt by his father to reform Valenwood into a permanent new home for the Ayleid peoples. Helara had attempted to prevent Naelor from departing the Stepstone Isles, as she had had a powerful prophetic dream of the terrible things to befall them, though Naelor was determined to join his father on the mainland nonetheless. After the death of Naelor, Helara's son Aerel dissapeared with his gryphon Nereon, returning after a fortnight to begin preparations for an invasion of the Summerset Archipelago. Helara was devastated over the loss of her husband, and unlike her daughter Alyssare she felt nothing but grief. Helara often argued with Alyssare—who wanted to unleash her fury on Faldan—that enacting revenge on the King would cause nothing but more destruction and death. Despite the frequent arguments between Helara and her daughter, Aerel turned westward rather than eastward, his eyes fixed upon a new start for both his people and House.

In 1E 366 during the conquest, all three of Helara's children departed the Stepstone Isles, never to return, though Helara remained. Helara eventually fell ill and died before Aerel's Invasion concluded, her last words recounting yet another prophetic dream depicting the deaths of her three children[N 1]. It is worth noting, however, that unlike her prior dreams, these visions of her children's deaths did not come to pass.

  1. SPOILERS: Once that part of the story is determined, insert here some specifics about what befell the last Arana kings before their line was extinguished. In this way her dreams were not about her own children, as she feared, but about the death of her children's dynasty.
