Featured Article King Aerel I Arana, known as the Gryphon, was the first King of the Summerset Isles, and the founder of House Arana of Alinor. In 1E 366 he began his Invasion of the Summerset Archipelago, aided by his two sisters, Alyssare and Rhaethen, and the siblings' gryphons, Nereon, Rhea, and Dawnwing. Over the course of two years, he managed to subdue the five Altmeri kingdoms and unite them under his rule. On the site of his arrival on the archipelago during his Invasion, Aerel had constructed a fort, which he ordered to be expanded into a foothold known as the Gryphonhold, which served as a summer home for the Arana dynasty. Both in the present day as in his own time, Aerel was seen as an enigma. He had only one true friend, his sister-wife Alyssare. He entrusted her with the every-day rule of his kingdom; Aerel himself spent a great deal of time on progression through the realm until he was too old to do so. By Alyssare he had three children: Daethen, Vaelthil, and Viseriel, though Vaelthil died in infancy, and Daethen was assassinated relatively early into his reign, and so Aerel's bloodline continued through his youngest son Viseriel.
