Man, often said as Men, is used to refer to any of the human races of Nirn, such as the Nords, Imperials, Bretons, and Redguards. Though 'Man' is used most commonly when referring to the races of men, 'human' is also known to be used on occasion to refer to Man specifically, or to any creature with a humanoid shape and ability more generally.

The races of men typically live naturally to around the age of 80–90, with anyone older being rare anomolies and considered very old. It is possible for Men to extend their lives through the use of magic, though the knowledge on how to do so is incredibly rare and even beyond the reach of the vast majority of skilled Mer, who are naturally inclided to magic.

Origin[]

Colloquial Usage[]

The term 'man' is also used in reference to one's gender, regardless of race. An Altmer male might be referred to as a man in various situations, e.g., "there was a man that came in here the other day—an Altmer". This kind of difference in usage is typically made clear through a difference in capitalisation, where the colloquial 'man' is lower-case, and the species 'Man' is upper-case, making the following sentence not at all contradictory: "a man came in here the other day—he was a Mer".

Additionally, 'men' (plural) can be used to describe soldiers, though it is only distinguished from the gender in its contextual usage.

Known Types of Man[]

Various races of Man have existed on Nirn throughout its storied history, some of which are considered extinct as of the Fourth Era.

Nords[]

Nords are the native Men of Skyrim, where the blood and traditions of the Atmorans still hold sway and belief in the Nordic Pantheon remains the dominant religion. Nords are seen as a brutish race and fearful of magic by the other races of Tamriel. They do, however, maintain a strong pride in their more humble way of life.

Imperials[]

Bretons[]

Redguards[]

Redguards are the native Men of Hammerfell in the westernmost part of Tamriel. They have a reputation for hot-bloodedness and sexual licentiousness. They are viewed with some mistrust and rivalry by the Bretons in the neighbouring High Rock.
