This page is intended to draw a rough chronology of events in the world during the Merethic Era. This chronology is often based on estimations according to key dates, character ages etc. For a more general overview of the history see the timeline of major events.
Note that the Merethic Era counts backwards from 1 though omits negatives, identical to BCE on Earth[N 1]. Just like on Earth the year 0 does not exist on Nirn: the year preceding 1E 1 was ME 1, not ME 0. It is estimated by sapiarchs that the Merethic Era extends back 2.500 years, although some argue it went back even further to ME 3.000.
Many noble Houses trace their family histories to the Merethic Era, and many stories, songs, and legends are told about it. It is an Era that is shrouded in mystery, with more myth than fact known about it. There are numerous tales from the Merethic Era, too many to count. These histories were not recorded in books but passed down from generation to generation through story and song. While some of them may be dismissed as fairytales, everyone in Tamriel is defined by them.
Early Merethic Era (2500–2000)[]
Middle Merethic Era (2000–1000)[]
Late Merethic Era (1000–1)[]
Year 2 of the Merethic Era[]
ME 2 is the year the Narfinsel Schism errupted in the Ayleid Empire. Prompted by the death of the Ayelid High King some years prior, the council of electors continually failed to elect a new High King, creating both political and religious instability in the realm known as the Narfinsel Schism, named after a specific period during the period which resulted in open civil war between the many Ayleid kingdoms.
Quotes[]
The oldest histories we have were written after the Aldmer came to Tamriel. The Nedes only left us runes on rocks, so everything we know about the early Merethic Era comes from accounts set down by priests thousands of years later. There are sapiarchs at the College who question all of it. Those old histories are full of kings who reigned for hundreds of years, and knights riding around a thousand years before there were knights.

Notes[]
- ↑ Someone who was born in ME 56 and died in ME 12 would have lived a 44 year life.
