Prince Naelor Arana was the secondborn son of King Anumaril of Abagarlas, and was the father of Aerel I Arana of the Summerset Isles. Naelor fought in the War of the Shrine and the Alessian Slave Rebellion, eventually fleeing with his father to Valenwood and siring three children with Helara Errinorne: Aerel, Alyssare, and Rhaethen. Naelor was executed in 1E 365 by the command of King Faldan I Camoran of Valenwood.
Naelor's children would go on to depart Valenwood and conquer the Summerset Archipelago, uniting its six kingdoms.
Appearance and Character[]
Naelor, unlike his brother, took after his father in appearance. He bore silver hair, blue eyes, and an olive complexion. He was relatively thin of frame when compared to his brother, though he knew how to wield a sword in battle.
History[]
War of the Shrine[]
When the War of the Shrine errupted in 1E 239 over a religious dispute with the king of Delodiil, Naelor was taken into the field by his father, King Anumaril, while his elder brother Malyon remained in Abagarlas to defend the city in their father's stead. King Anumaril rode his gryphon Eureus while Malyon rode Lelanos; Naelor did not have a gryphon mount.
Naelor and his father departed Abagarlas with the intention of catching King Cenedelin III of Delodiil by surprise, as he was not supposed to know that war had broken out yet. Much to their surprise, the entire city was found deserted, and they turned around to march back home, fearing treachery.
Upon their return, they found that every single living soul in Abagarlas had been slaughtered, including civilians and children. The Arana gryphon stable was found butchered and both Malyon and their mother Palolel were dead. In a rage Anumaril took his army and pursued Cenedelin's force, which had departed some time before. Eventually the Arana army caught up with King Cenedelin, and a battle ensued.
Battle of the Ford[]
The Battle of the Ford began as soon as Cenedelin's force was in sight, and primarily took place at a ford in an unknown river of the Heartlands. Using his mighty gryphon Eureus, Anumaril] wreaked havoc upon Cenedelin's forces, which, combined with a potent cavalry charge, spelled the end for King Cenedelin. During the battle, Naelor, who was in command of the forces on the ground, slew Cenedelin's son and heir Taegol Larethal. Cenedelin himself was eventually slain by an unknown Arana soldier.
Aftermath[]
Following the bloody war, Naelor and his father returned to the empty and blood-stained city of Abagarlas, where Anumaril would go on to create—and promptly destroy—the Staff of Towers, and Naelor would salvage three gryphon eggs from the butchered Arana gryphon stable. It would take a great deal of time, and even more effort, for the eggs to hatch, but Naelor was careful to keep them protected and close by at all times
Alessian Slave Rebellion[]
Flight to Valenwood[]
Naelor fled to Valenwood with his father after the Ayleid defeat in the rebellion, and the death of his father's gryphon, Eureus, the last of the Arana gryphons. King Faldan I Camoran allowed the Ayleid refugees to enter his realm so long as they would not dissonate Jephre's greensong[N 1], to which the Naelor and his father quietly did not agree to, though their Ayleid brethren did.
While his father set off to building Ayleid structures in the great forest of Valenwood, Naelor began the arduous process of hatching the three gryphon eggs he still bore from before the rebellion. During this time his father also arranged a marriage between Naelor and Helara Errinorne, the daughter of a lesser Ayleid Lord that owned small island colonies off the coast of Auridon in the Summerset Archipelago, which was previously territory of the Ayleid Empire, though was now independent. With Helara he had three children, one for each gryphon egg: Aerel, Alyssare, and Rhaethen. Each of Naelor's gryphon eggs were placed in the childrens' cradles, and over the years, and with the aid of unknown spells, they began to hatch. By the year 1E 365, the three gryphons were fully grown, and Naelor's children rode them as mounts. They were: Nereon, Rhea, and Dawnwing.
At some point after his marriage to Helara, Naelor moved to her father's seat on the Stepstone Isles where they would raise their three children until Naelor's untimely death in 1E 365.
Death & Aftermath[]
In 1E 365 Naelor accompanied his father in a meeting with the Bosmeri King, Faldan I, during which Anumaril revealed his dishonourable intentions and attempted to use his magic to transform Valenwood into a new home for the Ayleid people. His attempt failed due to a fundemental incompatibility between Ayleid and Bosmeri magic, prompting Anumaril transformed himself into a great Orrery after realising his failure. Shortly afterwards, Faldan proclaimed King Anumaril's death and arrested Naelor, promptly beheading him for his father's crimes and sending his severed head to his son, Aerel, who was living with his sisters on their maternal grandfather's lands, the Stepstone Isles.
Aerel departed on gryphonback for a fortnight, returning to send ravens to rally any Ayleids to his cause that he could, and comissioning an Ayleid steel blade he would name 'Telalatta', or 'Silverlight' in the common tongue. Additionally, to those that would heed his command, he ordered the construction of a great armada. With his army and fleet he surprised many by turning his eyes westwards, not eastwards, to the Summerset Archipelago. Aerel would go on to wage a war of conquest and unite the two Altmeri kingdoms into the Summerset Isles.

- ↑ The exact definition of a 'greensong' is unknown, though it can roughly be interpreted as the "sanctity of the forest" or other such things central to Bosmeri culture, possibly even referring to the Green Pact.
