Orun Yelmar was a First Era scholar of ancient Nordic history, and a member of House Yelmar. He was known for his academic exploration of the Dragon Cult's history, including the renegade priest Miraak and the famous Dragon War. He was a Nord of Eastmarch, but much information about his person has faded into history.
Character[]
Orun had a deep interest in ancient Nordic history, and spent much of his life studying the past of his people, particularly how they came to be oppressed by the dragons and their cult in the Merethic Era, and how they eventually broke free from tyranny. Based on this it can be concluded that Orun had a great respect for history and the struggles of the Nordic people.
History[]
Little is known about Orun's life outside his published works. He was a Nord of Eastmarch, and a member of House Yelmar. It is possible that he resided for some time in Winterhold due to its scholarly reputation, but that is only speculation. Windhelm was the ancient capital of Skyrim and itself had many facilities for scholars and academics, so it is possible that Orun instead spent time in Eastmarch's capital to deepen his studies.
Given Orun's historical work on the Dragon Priest Miraak, it is likely that he went on expeditions to the island of Solstheim in an effort to uncover more about the renegade priest and his feud with the Dragon Cult.

Family[]
No family of Orun is known, although he was a member of House Yelmar, a House of Eastmarch.
Quotes by Orun[]
Miraak was many things, but certainly not a folk hero. Had he joined the Dragon War he would have sooner made slaves of the Nordic people than join their struggle, replacing one despot with another.
