Protector of the Isles is one of the titles held by the ruler of Alinor, along with 'King of Alinor' and 'Lord of the White City'.
The title seems to be of a military nature, referring to the overall command of the king over the armies of the Summerset Archipelago, as it has been held by regents in case of the minority or incapacity of the ruling king. The king may also renounce the title and grant it of his own accord, especially if they feel another is more suitable as a military leader.
Before the Summerset Isles were renamed in 4E 22, 'Protector of the Isles' was commonly merged with 'King of the Summerset Isles' as 'King and Protector of the Isles'.
Known Protectors of the Isles Who Did Not Rule as Kings[]
- Lord Tranian Rilis, declared himself Protector of the Isles with the consent of Rhaethen Arana and the rest of the high council following the death of Daethen I during the Siege of Shimmerene. Later resigned.
- Sir Viseriel Arana, made Protector of the Isles by King Anumaril I Arana after the resignation of Tranian Rilis. Following the death of his nephew in 1E 444, Viseriel succeeded to the Marble Throne and ruled as king.
