The Return was a war waged in the late Merethic Era between Ysgramor I and the Kingdom of the North in Skyrim. It was the first instance in Tamrielic history of Man triumphing over Mer, and served as inspiration for the later Alessian Slave Rebellion in 1E 242.
The war resulted in the near extinction of the Falmer race, as after their victory the Atmorans engaged in a genocidal crusade to wipe out their remaining rivals.

Historical Sources[]
Most information about the Return was detailed by Atmoran scribes and priests, passed down through the ages. A notable example of such work is Songs of the Return, written sometime after the Return. It is unknown if the events detailed in the series of books are factual, or if they were written to historically favour King Ysgramor I. An example of such exaggerations may have been claiming that there were only five hundred soldiers in Ysgramor's host, as five hundred men, however mighty, could not possibly have defeated the tens of thousands of Mer available to the Falmeri king. Some sapiarchs of the College place the actual number somewhere between five to fifteen thousand, combined with many impressive tactical maneouvers and strategic planning on part of the Atmorans.
