The Heartland of Cyrodiil is a scholarly book written by Phrastus, an Imperial scholar of the Second Era. The book offers a topographical description of the Heartlands of Cyrodiil, providing a new interpretation of the descriptions given by the classical author Heimskr.
Synopsis[]
For centuries it was believed in scholarly circles that, based off the works of the classical author Heimskr, Cyrodiil used to be a dense jungle in centuries past. Given that in all of recent recorded history the region has been described as containing rolling green fields and a temperate climate, it was believed that the Ayleids may have used some sorcery to change the topographical makeup of the region.
Phrastus of Elinhir, however, puts forward that Heimskr's works have been misinterpreted for centuries. He instead states that Cyrodiil has always been as it is today, and that Heimskr's words were incorrectly transcribed, thus giving the impression that Cyrodiil used to be dense jungle.
Contents[]
Much has been made of the classical author Heimskr's characterisation of Cyrodiil as a jungle or rainforest. My studies indicate that the use of the phrase "endless jungle" to describe Cyrodiil appears to be an error in transcription. Close study of the original, badly faded manuscript reveals that the phrase was miscopied, and should be more accurately rendered as "extensive uplands". The adjectives "an equatorial rain" as applied to the Nibenese forest do not appear in the original manuscript at all, and I would posit were added by the scribe in support of his previous erroneous use of "jungle". Lady Cinnabar of Taneth, of course, takes issue with this exegesis, but the flaws in her methods of scholarship have been well-documented elsewhere.
