Topal Liaren, also known as Topal the Pilot, was a legendary Aldmeri explorer of the Merethic Era, and the founder of House Liaren. Topal was granted funds to explore mainland Tamriel, mapping the vast unexplored continent on behalf of the King of Elorne. His mappings would alter be used during the Coming of the Aldmer when thousands of Aldmer from the Summerset Archipelago left their homeland in favour of mainland Tamriel where they established several independent kingdoms.
Following his voyages, Topal was raised to nobility and founded House Liaren, which in the coming centuries would eventually come to usurp the old kings of Elorne and become the new rulers of Shimmerene.
Topal is the patron saint of Leyawiin, a Nibenese city located at the mouth of the Niben River in Cyrodiil, where his most famous exploits were said to have taken place.

Quotes about Topal[]
Back in the Merethic Era he charted the sea lanes and explored the River Niben. Torval sailed all the way from Topal Bay up the Niben Valley. He purchased the Eight Islands—the site of White-Gold Tower and the Imperial City—from the beastfolk natives for the secret of literacy.
